A BIT ABOUT US

Why another travel company? You might ask. Despite the plethora of competition out there, we still felt like there was something missing, and space for something new.

Black Lotus is a unique travel firm that combines travel, culture, design, architecture, fashion, and art. We are based in New Zealand, but typical of most New Zealanders we are an international, well- travelled bunch and we hope our suggested itineraries reflect this. We have been influenced by travel from all around the world, but more and more we are becoming a creative hub and a source of creating holidays through New Zealand and Asia.

We believe how we travel affects our environment, our lives, our wellbeing, and our state of mind. As our favourite philosopher, Alain de Botton, said in The Art of Travel, “Journeys are the midwives of thought. Few places are more conducive to internal conversations than a moving plane, ship, or train.”

We believe that well designed holidays are timeless and therefore we reject the generic, steer clear of passing fads, and refrain from predicting trends. We create holidays that people have not done before or ways of seeing a place that they haven’t thought possible.

LANCE MOULD

I travelled all around the world in my younger days, spending years living and exploring Africa, the Middle East, Europe and North America. Asia was never on my radar until a chance stopover ignited my passion and changed my life for ever.

VALENTINA MOULD-MORELLI

I have been lucky enough to travel far and wide across South East Asia and beyond. Our community (our local characters) is at the heart of everything we do – we do our best to look after them and get people involved as much as possible.

BELLA

Humbling and gracious, travel for me has inspired this innate need to constantly strive to deepen my understanding of why people act in specific ways, how cultures have survived for thousands of years and traditional dishes. I travel to meet, see, and eat.

STEPHEN

Travelling for me is akin to education. And that education starts in the planning and booking process. I love the history of places I visit so I spend hours looking at the history, and planning on what I want to see, and where to stay, to understand the history of the destination.

GERBEN

Travelling has not only been something that I do, but it has been something that has become part of my life. I spend all my free time travelling, to hunt new destinations in search of hidden secrets which are unique and unlike any other on the market.

MAI

I am always happy to welcome travellers to my homeland Vietnam. I'm passionate to design tailor-made journeys in style that meet the expectations of travelers. I am a real foodie and know hidden spots to experience real Vietnamese cuisine, the small shops with the best Banh Mi or Pho.

PHUONG

The song " On the road again " is my Theme. Travelling is my life. Whenever I have a chance to get on the road, I feel alive. I make new friends, meet a lot of interesting people and learn so much every time I travel either by myself or with our clients. I can't wait to get on the road again.

STEPHANIE

For me, it’s essential that you will not just visit a destination but you will immerse yourself in the local culture, meet the people, and immerse yourself in wonderful sights, sounds, tastes, and feelings throughout the journey.
